Welcome to SpeedRead. We are committed to protecting your privacy with a privacy-first architecture. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

SpeedRead ("we," "our," or "us") is a speed reading application that uses RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) technology to help you read faster. Unlike most apps, SpeedRead does not require account creation and stores all your data locally on your device.

Information We Do NOT Collect

SpeedRead does NOT collect or store on any server:

• No user accounts or authentication data
• No email addresses or names
• No reading history or content you've read
• No location data or device identifiers
• No analytics or usage tracking data
• No IP addresses or access logs

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored ONLY on your device using encrypted local storage (MMKV). This data never leaves your device and is accessible only to you:

1. Reading History

• Articles you've read: Titles, URLs, and extracted content
• Reading progress: How far you've read in each article
• Timestamps: When you read each article
• Word counts: Estimated read times for articles

2. User Preferences

• Reading speed: Your preferred WPM (words per minute) setting
• Theme preference: Light, dark, or system theme

3. Subscription Status

• Subscription tier: Free or premium status (from Apple)
• Article counter: Number of articles read this month (for free tier limit)

You can delete any or all of this data at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app completely removes all locally stored data.

Third-Party Services

When you share content to SpeedRead, we use third-party services to extract and format article text. These services temporarily process the URLs and content you submit, but we do not store or track what articles you read.

1. Content Extraction Services

• Firecrawl: Extracts article content from web pages. Your article URLs are temporarily processed to extract readable text.
• OpenAI (GPT-4o): Cleans and formats extracted content to remove ads and navigation. Article text is temporarily processed to improve readability.
• Scrape Creators: Extracts content from Twitter/X posts. Tweet URLs are temporarily processed to extract text.

Important: These services process content in real-time as you request it. The processed content is delivered directly to your device for local storage. We do not store, log, or track which URLs or articles you process.

2. Subscription Management

• Apple In-App Purchase: Processes all payments and manages subscriptions. Your payment information is handled entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We never see your payment details.
• Superwall: Manages subscription paywalls and displays pricing. This service helps present subscription options but does not store personal information.

We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these third-party services to understand their data practices.

How We Use Information

Since all your data is stored locally on your device, we use it solely to:

• Display your reading history in the app
• Remember your reading progress in articles
• Apply your preferred reading speed and theme
• Enforce the 3-article-per-month limit for free tier users
• Verify your premium subscription status (via Apple)

We have no access to this data. It exists only on your device.

Data Security

On Your Device

• Encrypted Storage: All data is stored using MMKV, an encrypted key-value storage system
• iOS Secure Storage: Data is protected by iOS's security sandbox
• App Group Sharing: Data is securely shared between the main app and share extension

Network Communications

• All network requests use HTTPS/TLS encryption
• Content extraction requests are made directly from your device to third-party services
• No intermediary servers log or store your requests

Your Privacy Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

• Access: View all your reading history and preferences in the app
• Deletion: Delete individual articles or clear all history at any time
• Portability: Your data is stored locally and can be accessed at any time
• Complete removal: Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all data

Children's Privacy

SpeedRead does not collect any personal information from users of any age. The app is safe for users 13 and older. Since no data is collected or transmitted to our servers, there is no personal information from children to protect beyond the local data stored on their device.

International Users

SpeedRead can be used worldwide. The third-party content extraction services we use may be operated from various countries. When you request article content, your URL may be processed by servers in different locations. However, we do not store or track this information on any servers we control.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, please note:

• We do not collect personal information: SpeedRead does not collect, store, or process personal information as defined by CCPA
• We do not sell personal information: We have never sold and will never sell personal information
• No data sharing: We do not share personal information with third parties, except for the temporary processing described above

European Union Users (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, please note:

• Minimal data processing: We do not process personal data as defined by GDPR on our servers
• Local storage only: All user data is stored locally on your device
• Third-party processors: Content extraction services may temporarily process URLs you submit, but we do not control or store this data
• Your rights: You have complete control over your locally stored data and can delete it at any time

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top
• Displaying a notice in the app for material changes

Your continued use of SpeedRead after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
